Pretty, Prettier, Prettiest: Chambray Shirt Dress

Chambray Shirt Dress
There is something about chambray that I love. It looks so stylish, and laid back. I actually just purchased the "pretty" shirt dress from Old Navy this weekend. I think I am going to love chambray for the fall. Paid with riding boots, or tights will make the chambray dress perfect for fall. Speaking of...is anyone else ready for it to be fall? I am over summer!

Gold Medal Beauty Products

Gold Medal Products
The opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics is just days away! My boyfriend and I are making some delicious bbq, and watching the opening ceremony on his oversized tv.

I thought I would be cheesy, and put together a list of my "gold medal" products. There are some products I know I will use for life. I trust them, they always look good, smell good, or do good. Why would I want to leave them?

Starting from the top:

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation is defiantly a splurge item for me. It is around $40 at Sephora but it is amazing. It is a full coverage foundation that hides all of my flaws, looks natural, and stays on all day...even during the hot and humid summer. If you are willing to splurge on a foundation, and are looking for good coverage I highly recommend it.

The Korres Lip Butters have been a long time favorite of mine. They are incredibly moisturizing, and the tinted ones give off a beautiful color. These run $12 at Sephora, which some might think is pricey for a lip balm but you get a lot of product and they are worth it. Pomegranate and Guava are my favorites.

Purity by Philosophy is an amazing, every day moisturizer. When my skin isn't acting out, I like to use it day and night. When my skin is being picky, I like the Philosophy Clear Days Ahead.

The Elf Studio Line lash extending mascara is $3 and hands down one of the best mascara I've ever used. I have short and stubby lashes. Using this Elf mascara, plus Cover Girl Lash Blast gives me super long lashes and I love it. Did I mention it is $3. I get mine at my local Target, or you can find it on www.eyeslipsface.com.

When I parooze the nail polish aisle I always stop at Essie. They have a great range of colors, a good formula (most of the time), and a moderate price at $8.00. I like OPI, but for my small nail beds, the brush on Essie polish is easier to work with. Hint: Ulta always has Essie on their sale rack! I've gotten some great colors for as low at $2.99.

Twirl by Kate Spade is my go to day time fragrance. It is light and airy. I received the roller ball for Christmas a year or two ago and recently purchased a full size bottle at Marshall's. I LOVE Marshall's for perfume purchases!

I had never heard of Jouer until I joined Birchbox. I received a cream eye shadow in one of my boxes and my life changed forever. The formula is great, it had just enough shimmer to be perfect for a brow bone and inner corner highlight. The color I have is Feather. The Jouer tinted moisturizer is fantastic too.

I love the entire Tarte Amazonian Clay line. The foundation provides fantastic coverage, the concelar is great for under eye circles, and the primper minimized pores. But, their blushes really stick out to me. They give off a beautiful, pigmented color. They go on smooth and are buildable. They come in a range of colors from bight, hot pink to bronze, cool pinks. I own exposed and blissful.

What are you GOLD MEDAL beauty products?

Colorful Cardigans

Colorful Cardigans
(L to R: J.Crew, Puma, J. Crew, Madwell, J. Crew, J. Crew
Fall, Winter, Spring, & Summer...I live in cardigans. I have been loving bright, colorful cardigans this summer. I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors. But, a colorful cardigan adds a great pop of color. They look great with simple skirts and tops for work, over a nice structured dress, or with jeans on the weekends.
J.Crew makes a great cardigan, but I think they are a little pricey. I've found some beautiful patterned, colorful cardigans  at Target and Forever 21. Old Navy and the Gap also have good fitting cardigans.
I want to pick up some new cardies for Fall...where is your favorite place to shop?

Tori

Favorite Color: Mint Green

Mint Green

My favorite color right now is mint green! It's such a pretty color and all of the clothes and accessories I find in that color are always really light and summery! It's also a pretty color to have in your house either painted on the front door like the picture above, or in a bathroom or kitchen! And don't forget about nail polish! Mint green nails are really cute! And mint green is also pretty paired with other colors...my favorite is with peach or light pink!

Work Place Attire for Every Budget

One of my biggest pet peeves is inappropriate work place attire...and my office is swimming in it. I work in a conservative industry, in a fairly formal office. I am not required to wear a suit everyday but business casual is expected unless otherwise noted. Now, not all offices are like that. Aly's office is much more casual. But, there some some clothing items you should never wear to an office. Many of my coworkers wear short skirts or dresses, low cut tops, see-through tops...you get the point. But, because they aren't wearing jeans, they pull it off as "business casual."

I've put together three outfits, at three price points, that I think are great for the office in the summer time. Did you notice I really like navy blue?

Work clothes by price

Outfit #1: Less Than $75
I really wanted to do an outfit less thant $50, but I had trouble finding pieces that I like. I am a sale shopper, so with more time to scower the internet, I am sure I could find a great outfit under $50...but for today I went with $75. I think navy blue and coral are beautiful together. This top, with a tie at the waste, will look great with capris.

Old Navy Canvas Capris in Coral $19.00
Merona Pleated Bib Tank $19.99
Old Navy Bow Tie Ballet Flats in Navy 19.94
Total: $58.93

Outfit #2: Less than $100
I love this outfit, seriously, I want to go buy it. Lace + navy blue + gold + bows + wedged = outfit heaven.  The lace and bow belt are so dainy and feminim and the gold makes it a litted edgy.

Webster for Target Tiered Lace Dress $39.99
Asos.Com Bow Skinny Belt $9.94
Chinese Laundry Gum Drop Wedge $34.99
Total: $84.92

Outfit #3: Less than $200While this dress appears to ne navy, it is actually a gorgeous deep purple. I love the silhouette, which I think makes the dress a little sexy but still work place appropraite.

Ralph Lauren Ruched Polka Dot Dress $134.00
Women's Woven-Straw Wedges $29.94
Total: $163.94

I hope things gives you some ideas on appropriate, business causal work place attire.

What is your favorite thing to wear to work?

Pretty, Prettier, Prettiest: Pearl Rings

Pearl Rings
I decided to start a series titled "Pretty, Prettier, Prettiest" on the blog. It will showcase three similar items at 3 price points.
I decided to start with gorgeous pearl rings. I love pearls they are beautiful and feminine, and I was able to find an option at every price point.
Prettiest: Perpetual Ring $165.00

Personally, like the "prettier" one best. It looks dainty and beautiful. I might have to go to Lord & Taylor this weekend to check it out. The "prettiest" certaintly is pretty. But I do not wear rings enough to warrant a $165 price tag. The "pretty" ring for Forever 21 is a great, inexpensive alternative though looks a little flimsy. With jewelry you most definently get what you pay for.

What one is your favorite?

Get to Know us: Al & Victoria

1. How did we meet and become friends? We met in 2004 after we both joined the same sorority freshman year! We became better friends sophomore year when we both lived in the sorority house, and started hanging out more often. Junior and senior year we were housemates. We are best friends!

2. Where do you live now?
A: Missouri
V: Washington DC

3. How would you describe your style?
A: Fun & Funky
V: Classic & Girly

4. What is your favorite article of clothing?
A & V: CARDIGANS!

5. What is your favorite accessory?
A: Necklaces...I usually don't go a day without one!
V: I am a headband kind of girl.

6. What is your favorite place to shop?
A: H & M and Target
V: Forever 21, department stores sale racks, and Target

7. You just won an unlimited shopping spree to the store of your choice...where would you spend it?
A: Saks Fifth Avenue and Marc Jacobs
V: Bloomingdales and Kate Spade

8. What types of posts can be expected on Leopard & Lace? Fashion, what we buy, two ways to wear it, latest obsessions, things we love, make up, vintage finds/thrifting, beauty, DIY, nails, travel, baking... a little bit of everything, we are a little unpredictable!

9. Why did we create Leopard & Lace?
A: I love to look at fashion blogs and have always wanted to start one. I thought it would be more exciting to share the blog and V was the first person that popped into my head. We both have a love of style and being creative and we have two different styles...which would create a more diverse blog. We're best friends that live 1,000s of miles a part. This is a great way for us to stay connected and have something fun to do together. So many blogs feature high priced designer clothes; neither of us can afford that. But, we want to show that you can be stylish without spending a lot of money!

10. Last question: What do you order at Starbucks?
A: Since its winter... A triple grande non-fat no whip peppermint mocha
V: Grande Skim Chai Tea Latte... cold or hot, depending on the weather.  If I need more of a caffeine boost then I order a grande coffee with soy milk and add a little bit of cinnamon!
